Career Women and Dating: How to Find a Man

Your friends constantly hound you about finding a man. But you’ve been so committed to becoming a “career woman” that you barely have time to heat up a Lean Cuisine when you get home. The bar scene is OK, but most men you meet at there aren’t the boyfriend type. Where and how can you meet a decent guy?

Online Dating

I know you have probably heard either great success stories or atrocious stories about online dating. You have to think of dating sites as a great place where you can meet men of similar interests, but YOU ultimately decide who you would like to meet up with. Now, there are some weirdos, some guys who don’t tell the complete truth, but you can decipher who is worthy of meeting for a cup of coffee and who is un-dateable. Just make sure to always meet the person in a public place, and let a friend know where you will be. Online dating can be a success if you don’t put all your eggs in one basket. Plus, it’s a good way to practice your flirting skills if you haven’t dated in a while. Just have fun with it, and don’t take some of the losers you may meet so seriously. You could just meet a great guy.

Networking Events

I went to a networking event last fall, and I swear I was pushed into another dimension after 7pm. It felt like a singles-meet-and-greet, which would have been fine if I were single, but since I’m not, I spied on the women around me being approached by men dressed in suits and getting hit on big time.  These men were looking to “network” for dates. A lot of them were lawyers and other professionals looking to have a good time. I’m not saying you will meet the man of your dreams here, but you could probably leave with a number or two, all while practicing your pick-up skills and getting a possible date out of it.  Everyone is bound to get a little flirtatious when an open bar is involved.

Invest in a Hobby

If you’re too busy during the week to attend a networking event and think online dating is too much effort, then try taking a class in something that peaks your interest. Even volunteering for a cause close to your heart could benefit your dating life.  Cooking classes may have some single guys floating around, and who knows, you might find a nice guy who can actually cook! A comedy improv class can sharpen your wit while exposing you to some humorous guys. Even if there isn’t anyone in these classes you are remotely attracted to, the point is to meet people who might know other available men. There is nothing wrong with being set-up.
