Thinking about taking the plunge and moving in with your beloved? Living with your significant other has its pros and cons. It may seem like a great idea at first; the romance, the togetherness, the closeness…but take a look at this list to see if you are ready to handle what residing together has to offer.
1. The Mess: Everyone is messy in their own ways. Girls leave clothes everywhere and guys, well, they are just messy in every way.
Pros: There’s two of you now, so it is a joint effort when it comes to cleaning. It’s easier to have someone there with you tackling the dishes rather than you slaving away by yourself. Especially when you don’t wanna ruin your new mani.
Cons: Messes are never fun. It’s very easy to get annoyed with someone when they leave their dishes on the table or if toothpaste gets all over the sink. If you want to live with someone, you have to accept the fact that everyone has their own way of making a mess.
2. The Bills: This may be the hardest part about living together. Finances take a toll on a lot of relationships and it’s very difficult to work together to try to figure out a system that works.
Pros: It’s cheaper. Instead of living alone, there’s now two people paying for rent, electricity, cable and the internet bill. It’s easier on your wallet, so you can spend your dollars on more important things, like sexy clothes, fun dates or vacations.
Cons: Your significant other may or may not have their finances in order. It’s hard to work together to figure out who is paying what and on time. Before moving in together, make sure that the person you’re living with is able to pay for their share of things. Make sure you’re not stuck doing it all.
3. The Space: Living together means being together, all of the time.
Pros: If you’re in the type of relationship where you can’t get enough of each other, this will not be an issue for you. You will realize how much you love being around your partner and that you are willing to stick it out.
Cons: You’ll miss having your girlfriends over without him being there. You’ll get distracted when you have a deadline or a homework assignment due. It’s important to stay true to yourself and not let living together get in your head. It’s important to have space to yourself! Remember, it’s okay to go out and have a wine night with the girls…it’s not okay to ditch them because your boyfriend just got home from work.
Obviously, there is a lot to think about before moving in with your boyfriend/girlfriend. Use these tips and find out if it’s the right decision for you.
