Is It Time To Start Dating Again?

How much time should you take after a break-up before you start dating again? Some might say it depends on how long your previous relationship lasted; some think it’s better to get out there right away and pretend your ex never existed. I say it depends on the how the individual feels. There’s no set timeline of how long you should wait to date. You should date when you want to date. But, with this in mind, there are some very real and important factors to consider when deciding if you’re truly ready to get out there again.

You’re Confident in Who You Are

Part of the emotional crap that comes with a breakup is losing a bit of love for yourself and losing some confidence along with it. It’s often easy to fault yourself and assume all of the blame for the break up, when in reality, it was probably a joint effort. There are many reasons for a breakup and you don’t deserve all of the blame for yours. Some people just don’t mesh well together or the timing wasn’t right. If you want to start dating again, make sure that you are confident in who you are first. Try to rediscover the love you have for yourself. If you can go back into the dating world with your confidence intact, it’ll be much easier to get back in the game.

You Know What You Want and You’re Ready To Find It

Part of being successful at re-entering the dating world is to already have an idea of what you want. Take what you have learned from past relationships and apply this knowledge to your new dating life. If you don’t waste time dating people who have the same qualities you didn’t like in your last S.O., it will be much easier to find someone who will make you happy. Knowing what you want is a huge sign that you are ready to get back out there. Deciding to get back out there is tough, but you’re already making it easier for yourself by knowing what you want and going for it.

You’re Able To Find Joy In Being Single

Relationships are a great thing and a good one can really bring you joy, but it’s also important to find the joy in being single. You shouldn’t get back into the dating world only because you’re looking for someone to make you happy. Learn how to make yourself happy and then find someone who wants to help you stay happy.

You’re Truly Over Your Ex

It’s very important before you start dating again to be completely over your ex. If you get angry every time you hear their name or you can’t get through a conversation without bringing them up, you’re not ready to date someone new. The last thing someone wants to hear on a date is all about the other person’s ex. Yes, it is important to talk about things that revolve around past relationships, like what kind of relationship you’re looking for, but you should be able to politely and quickly make a comment about a past relationship without sounding bitter or “not over” that person.

The most important thing to remember while deciding if you’re ready to date again is to listen to your heart. If you don’t feel ready, give it a little more time. It can be frustrating to be alone, but taking the time for yourself to make sure you’re ready will help you in the long run. You want your next relationship to be an improvement. Don’t rush into something that isn’t right for you because you’re tired of being lonely. Be honest and set yourself up to find an amazing relationship.
