There are a great many things about the change from summer to fall. It’s finally boots, sweaters and cuddling weather. Coffee chains bring back everyone’s beloved pumpkin flavored coffees and snacks. Football starts. The leaves start changing and pumpkin and apple picking season are upon us. But did you ever think that the fall could affect you on a more personal level? According to studies, the fall can actually affect your love life in a couple of very interesting ways.

Your testosterone levels are on the rise.

A study done in Norway showed that a man’s level of testosterone peaks in the months of October and November. That study was specific to men, but the heightened levels of testosterone in the fall may be true in woman as well. According to the scientific world, this may be related to the decreased amount of daylight and the increase in social activity that comes with the change in weather. So instead of hating on the early hours of darkness that fall brings, embrace it and all the fun opportunities and excursions that may come your way.

Women seem even more attractive to men in the fall.

Some women think the transition from summer clothes to fall/winter clothes makes them look less sexy to men, but in fact it’s actually the opposite. With heightened levels of testosterone, men are actually more attracted to women in the fall and are more interested in sex. Remember what I said about women hating the switch to less sexy fall clothes? It looks like there is something called the “contrast effect,” which says that men are pickier about a woman’s physical features during the summer because they are seeing more women wearing fewer clothes. However, when it comes to the fall and winter, everyone is pretty much on the same boat in terms of clothes options, so the criteria guys use to characterize a girl as attractive or not swings in our favor.

Fall is a great time for fertility.

If you’re thinking of a good time to start trying for a baby, you may want to wait until the fall months. Based on statistics, the fall, especially November and December, are the most fertile months for both men and women. Guys’ sperm counts tend to be lower in the summer because of the heat and they need a little bit of time to regenerate making late fall that perfect baby making time. This combined with the fact that couples are more likely to enjoy a nice night in on the colder fall nights could lead to more fruitful activity in the bedroom.

Relationships are on the rise.

It’s true that many single people use the summer months as a way to have fun with their friends and engage in random hook ups and summer flings. Once the fall comes around, however, some of them may want something a little more steady. Who hasn’t heard one of their single friends say they want a fall boyfriend or girlfriend? You know someone they can cuddle up with on the cold nights. I definitely have and according to a study done by Facebook, the fall is the time of the year where most people change their relationship statuses to “In a relationship” or “Engaged.” So keep your eyes peeled because your new fall crush could lead to something more substantial.
