5 Signs You’re Dating a Keeper

Let’s say you’ve just started a new relationship and everything is going great. After a few days, weeks or even months you start wondering if this guy or girl is “the one.” Some people experience this feeling right off the bat, but for others their past relationships might have left them a bit more skeptical. No matter where you stand on that spectrum, there are a few key areas to examine to see if, in fact, your sweetheart is a keeper and potentially you’re Mr. or Mrs. Right.

You Can Be Yourself

I have dated several guys who, for one reason or another, I just couldn’t fully be myself around. Maybe I was just self-conscious or there was something standing in the way of us building a complete connection. Either way, it wasn’t good. The perfect guy or girl for you will love you no matter what and accept all of your flaws. You two are in a romantic relationship, yes, but you want your potential husband or wife to end up being your best friend too.  If you have this in your current relationship, you’re taking a step in the right direction.

You Can Talk About Anything

The person you end up with should be able to express his or her feelings in a way that isn’t hurtful to you or the relationship. Are you able to have an argument with your guy or girl and have it end after a truthful and respectful discussion? Can you express your opinions and feelings without having your partner jump down your throat? If you are able to have civil conversations about the important (or maybe not so important) things that come up in your relationship, you guys are probably well-matched.

Your Partner Respects Your Friend and Family

If you’re thinking about whether your flame is the one for you, check out how they act around your friends or family. Do they make the effort to get to know the people who are most important to you or do they brush them off? You want someone who is willing to take the time to engage and charm your friends and family. On the flip side, do you enjoy spending time with your partner’s friends and family? If you said yes to both scenarios, that’s a big sign that you guys should stick together.

You Can Talk About Money

Love isn’t about money, but it’s a topic that couples tend to fight about. You and your partner may have different views on spending or saving, but can you handle basic finances without starting World War III? Maybe you both have the same views about finances, which makes the situation better. It’s important that you share your financial goals with your loved one before you make any big decisions together. If you can have these types of conversations openly and honestly, you’re on the right track.

You Can Picture Your Future Together

Not every relationship you’ll have in your life will result in strong feelings. There comes a point in a relationship where you just know that your partner is the person you want to grow old with. This is the person who still gives you butterflies after months or years of being together. This is the person you want to share every experience with, good or bad. Even if you have your problems, you know you have what it takes to work them all out. If this is how you feel: Congrats! You’re dating a keeper.

Every relationship is different, but if you think you’ve found the one, take the time to think about why they make you so happy. After that, you’ll have a pretty decent idea if you’ve found your perfect match.
