Planning Your Date: Try Something New

While date nights with your significant other are fun no matter what you are doing, sometimes your relationship can get into a rut when you two are doing the same three activities for date night every time. Yes, a dinner and a movie are great, and spending time in is always relaxing and intimate. However, it might be a good idea to try something new every few dates. But what should you do? It can be hard to find new activities for you two to do and getting creative with these dates can often be difficult as well. Luckily for you, I have come up with a few date ideas that I have either experienced myself, or thought would be fun to do.

Try Something Active

Get outside and go explore what is around you. Go on a hike or try kayaking together. It is a perfect way to get exercise while still spending quality alone time together. Spending time out in nature is quiet and relaxing, plus it can be a beautiful backdrop for a date. Pack a picnic to enjoy together after your fun activity.

If the outdoors isn’t your thing, you could always also try taking a dance class together. Many ballrooms offer beginner classes in swing dancing an hour before they have open swing dancing for the night. You two could spend the night dancing together and then grab some dessert after.

Return to Childhood

Going to arcades, playing mini golf, or just spending a day at the park can be fun as an adult. You get to take a step back into your childhood but experience it through your adult self. There are also many adult-focused arcades popping up, so you don’t have to spend your date night around a ton of children either.

A New Form of Entertainment

Going out for some form of entertainment is totally valid, but try to change it up a bit rather than going to a movie. There are always other entertainment venues to go see. You could attend a concert, a comedy show, a live theatre production, or even go to the ballet together. There are many shows that would interest both people in the relationship so one person doesn’t have to hate what they’re watching. Grab dinner before or grab dinner there! Some shows provide food, but there are also a lot of entertainment dinners that you could attend as well. These usually have actors who provide a mystery for you to solve while enjoying dinner together.  Or find a restaurant that makes the meal the entertainment with a chef who comes out to explain each course.

Spend A Night In

A night in is also an acceptable date, but skip the usual movie and the popcorn. Try playing board games together with a bottle of wine and snacks. There are plenty of ways to make these games fun. You could even make your own rules to go with the game to make it a “getting to know you” opportunity.

Whatever you do together, it will be enjoyable because you are spending time with each other. Don’t stress about being too creative. Just choose something you’ve never done and try it out. You could even start to make a list of certain things that you think would be fun to do and run them by your S.O. to see if they would be interested in trying it out with you. Be open to new experiences and have fun with the person you’re with!
